COLONSAY NATURAL HISTORY SECTION

Colonsay will be of outstanding interest to any student of natural history - it has a fascinating range of habitats, ranging from ancient woodland through heather moorland, pasture, estuarine, lochside, hills, cliffs, acid bogs, alkaline machair etc. We particularly suggest that visitors obtain the following publications (all available from The Colonsay Bookshop):

A Guide to the Geology of Colonsay by Alex Maltman (leaflet, £1.00 in aid of church funds)

The Birds of Colonsay and Oronsay by David Jardine (£5.99)

The Flowering Plants of Colonsay & Oransay by Pamela and John Clarke (£5.99)

Colonsay, One of the Hebrides by Murdoch McNeill (£12.99)

A more general title is "Lonely Colonsay - Island at the Edge" by Kevin Byrne (£12.95); this is really a guide for walkers, but it does include some information of background nature.
