The Colonsay One-Name
Information Exchange
Researchers are invited to contribute postings, whether it is to impart or seek information. The facility was created on 24 December 2006, with a list of the 33 family names to which baptisms in Colonsay were registered 1796 1799 inclusive; these names are in Bold type, but additional names are added as they arise. For some years, this facility has been rather hard to find but by 26 May 2010, MacDougall and Paterson had been added and it had moved to a more accessible location.
Please send your submission to genealogist@colonsay.org.uk and include the relevant family name in upper case in the Subject line of your message. Do not identify any living individual in your message, and please substitute the symbol # for @ in your Email address, to reduce spam.
Postings may be edited, but please give your contribution a little thought, so as to ensure clarity and maximum benefit. In addition, Family Trees and traditions, history etc. are all very welcome and, if it is appropriate, will be posted as a link to a PDF file there is therefore no practical limit to the length of such submissions. In the case of Family Trees, please ask for an example of the format that is most useful; in principle, a narrative outline is desirable interested parties can then request the entire tree, and/or it can be posted on one of the specialist sites.
Many of these names will have no information at first; please do not hesitate to fill the gap if you can do so. The aim of this site is to assist individual researchers and to enhance our understanding of the Colonsay Diaspora please note that elsewhere on the site you can find The Colonsay Register, which lists all known Colonsay emigrants and provides another way to contact fellow researchers.
